Def Leppard in The Woodlands Rescheduled for September

If you thought you missed the Def Leppard concert this weekend in The Woodlands, you might still get a chance to see them here.  The original date was set for this past Friday, July 22nd but was rescheduled for September 23rd.  The lead singer’s dad, Joe Elliot Senior, passed away from a heart attack and The Woodlands July concert date was canceled along with dates in Dallas, San Antonio, and New Orleans.

Moving Def Leppard to September might not be a bad thing.  Late September in The Woodlands TX usually provides much cooler temperatures in the evenings and is a great time of the year for this outdoor amphitheater.  The Woodlands concert schedule is loaded down with great shows in September, with more concerts than any other month out of the year.

There are still many great tickets available for the show including lawn seating and covered seating.  If you bought a ticket for the July 22nd concert, your ticket will still work for the September show.  You can buy them at ticketmaster or get them directly from the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion box office.  You can call the Pavilion at 281-363-3300.

Coal Burger The Woodlands

The Woodlands will be getting a new burger restaurant very soon.  Coal Burger is coming to The Woodlands Town Center and will be attached to the already existing Grimaldi’s Pizzeria.  If it’s anything near as good as the pizza concept, these burgers will be awesome.

Coal Burger is a fairly new concept that Grimaldi’s Pizzeria has launched.  Based in Scottsdale, there are two locations already open in Arizona.  The Woodlands will be the 3rd store for this exciting new concept.  It is considered to be a fast casual dining concept and prides itself in using organic or more naturally grown products whenever possible.  Offering a variety of choices like gluten free buns to organic beer, Coal Burger is definitely health conscious.

The burgers will be cooked in a coal fired oven, giving them a natural smokey flavor.  All the beef will be certified organic grass fed and chicken will be hormone and antibiotic free.  Their menu will also include salads and a vegetarian burger.  Specialty drinks will include organic gelato milkshakes and floats, organic beer and wine, and regular cane cola.

Coal Burger’s “Eat Green and Live Green” motto should be a great fit here in The Woodlands TX.  This will be a nice addition to the many unique dining options we already have in the Town Center.

Bucees Madisonville TX

If your planning a road trip north on I-45 in the near future, you should consider stopping off in Madisonville Texas.  Bucees opened their largest store yet in May 2009 and this store is quickly becoming a landmark of sorts.  If you’ve never been in a Bucees, you’re missing out.

Bucees has some of the largest convenient stores in the State.  The Madisonville store does not cater to commercial truck drivers, but rather to travelers  along I-45.  They have a wide offering ranging from jerky, fudge, Dippin Dots, fresh deli, specialty sauces, and much more.  Everyone raves about how clean their bathrooms are.

Before the Madisonville store opened, the Luling location was their flagship located between Houston and San Antonio along I-10.  The Madisonville store is located just over an hour north of The Woodlands TX, at the Hwy 21 exit.  This new mega store has created a lot of new jobs in town, starting quite the buzz.  Madisonville TX real estate is very diverse, with many acreage size properties for sale.

Many people in The Woodlands have already found this spot.  Bucee’s mascot is a beaver and you can see his face all over town.  People in The Woodlands proudly wear the Bucees t-shirts and display their beaver bumper stickers.  So next time your headed to Dallas, make sure you stop off and see what all this beaver madness is about.

The Woodlands Crawfish

Over the years crawfish has become a very popular shellfish here in The Woodlands TX.  Once common only in the Bayou country, you can find tons of restaurants this time of the year that are serving up fresh crawfish right here in town.  Local chefs have perfected their boiling process and are serving up crawfish that can compete with the best cooks in Louisianna.  So where are the best places to eat crawfish in The Woodlands?

Wolfies restaurant and sports bar has been featuring crawfish since they opened their doors.  If you like your crawfish hot and spicy, you won’t be disappointed here.  Wolfies is a family restaurant with a casualy atmosphere and is a great place to catch the game on TV, as they subcribe to all the big sports packages.

Another great spot in The Woodlands area is Crabby Daddys.  Crabby Daddys has been serving up fresh seafood in their restaurant since 2000, and they also own the seafood market that is open to the public right next door as well.  Crabby Daddys features a casual/fun atmosphere with lots of live music on the weekends.  Zydeco and Jazz are just a couple of genres that are played, you should call them at 281-296-2722 to see what they have lined up.

Peeling crawfish has become so popular in The Woodlands, there are tons of other spots in town serving them up too.  Some of the restaurants that I think are doing it right include:

  • Stadia Sports Grill
  • Babin’s Seafood
  • Landry’s Seafood
  • Pappadeaux Seafood
  • Tailgators Pub & Grill

This is the best time of year to enjoy crawfish, the height of the season is considered to be between March and June.  If your looking for crawfish festival, Old Town Spring will be hosting their annual Texas Crawfish & Music Festival on the weekends between May 13-22.  There is no shortage of crawfish in Texas this time of year.

Las Vegas Real Estate on the Road to Recovery

Today we have a guest post from a realtor in Las Vegas, Michelle Sterling.  Las Vegas real estate has been in the news so much lately, it’s nice to get some insight from someone who knows this market like Michelle.

There is no denying the fact that Las Vegas, Nevada was among the hardest hit of metropolitan areas throughout the course of what proved to be a deep and difficult recession nationwide. Southern Nevada consistently produced some of the most dire statistics in terms of employment numbers, foreclosures and a whole host of economic indicators, and for quite some time. Las Vegas real estate in particular has gone through an extremely painful adjustment period that is still very much an ongoing process. But with all that having been said, it is now time to recognize that the corner has been substantially turned. Las Vegas, Nevada is now on the road to recovery.

According to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, the month of February brought our 12th consecutive increase in visitation numbers on a year-over-year basis. This is a highly significant development and strongly suggests recovery in economic and consumer confidence measurements all across the country. In addition, the UNLV Center for Business and Economic Research recently reported that the Southern Nevada Index of Leading Economic Indicators clocked one of it’s highest increases in 30 years in January due to substantial gains in travel, tourism and gaming revenues. As a result of these factors (among others), Kiplinger Personal Finance magazine just included Las Vegas on it’s list of “11 Comeback Cities for 2011″. According to the report, employment in Las Vegas is expected to grow by nearly 3 percent by the end of this year. For a city that has suffered one of the highest unemployment rates over the past few years, this is encouraging news indeed.

One of the main drivers of economic vitality for Las Vegas is McCarran International Airport. This is a city that depends on a strong flow of domestic and international travel for both business and pleasure. Here again we see encouraging developments that indicate a brighter future. American Airlines has just added a fifth daily flight between Los Angeles and Las Vegas that is specifically timed to make the connection between Los Angeles and Shanghai, China. Not to be outdone, Virgin Atlantic Airways is laying the groundwork to start flying upwards of 40,000 passengers a year between Las Vegas and Manchester, England.

There is no doubt about it, Las Vegas is on the road to recovery !!

Appraisers Awaiting April 1st

April 1, 2011 is supposed to be a big date for the real estate appraisal industry.  Over the past couple of years, there has been much re-regulation in the profession, some good and some bad.  April 1st should be a happy day for residential real estate appraisers.

In the aftermath of the recent mortgage meltdown, the government passed something called the HVCC (Home Valuation Code of Conduct) that was supposed to increase the quality of home appraisals.  The HVCC basically created a middle man in the appraisal process that acts like a buffer between loan officers and appraisers.  The appraiser was then forced to split their fee with the middle man and it ran a lot of professionals out of the business.  With the appraisers hands tied, these middle men (aka appraisal management companies) took advantage of the situation and were low balling appraisers with no respect to quality at all.  In a lot of situations, these management companies were not even bothering to pay appraiser and the industry was turning into a joke.

The government finally had to step back in and add some policies to mandate a minimum fees that management companies have to pay appraisers.  These new policies are supposed to go in effect on April 1st.  The Woodlands TX real estate appraisers are all anxious to see if the April fools joke will be on them again this year.  Even though The Woodlands Texas housing market has held strong, local appraisers have felt the wrath of all the national housing mess.  April 1st marks the light at the end of the tunnel.
